No matter where you are in your life, if you are reading these words (or hearing them later in my podcast), this message is coming to you for a reason.
Everything comes to us at the perfect time in our lives. You may have heard that when the student is ready, the teacher will appear. The same works for information in your life. When you are ready to listen, the right information will show up.
I talk to so many people these days who feel they are on the precipice of effecting great change in their lives and yet still feel stuck or blocked. They unconsciously believe that someone or something is preventing them from achieving their dreams…and because they believe it, their reality shows up with the evidence to confirm their belief.
What if, you simply changed your belief?
Have you ever asked yourself why you believe what you believe?
A belief is a thought that has been repeated enough times that it is a well worn track through our mind. But what if what we believe is not relevant to our life as it is today?
What if the very belief that is holding us back is something we thought as a child and because we then focused on that, we saw more evidence of it, which perpetuated the thought again and again until we reached the point where reality couldn’t show up in any other way. Even if it did shou up, we either didn’t see it (because we couldn’t) or dismissed it as a real possibility for us.
I know I have had those experiences in my life. One example was back in the 1990’s. I started writing songs with my uncle. We wrote about 50 songs together and recorded some in the studio. Some were passed along to a publisher in Nashville and he met with me and told me they were good and were certainly good enough to be on the radio. But he wanted me to write with his partner, Eddy Raven.
Having been a fan of Eddy’s music for years, I couldn’t envision myself actually writing with him. I told his partner, I didn’t know how to do that and just wanted to get my songs published. Not long after, I received a rejection letter. I was disappointed, but ultimately I know I manifested the opportunity and yet still didn’t have enough belief in myself to follow through on it. I let the disappointment crush me and I never manifested another opportunity like it. Shortly afterwards, I stopped writing songs altogether and just settled into my corporate gig. I gave up on myself and my dreams.
The world didn’t stop me. The music publisher didn’t stop me.
I stopped me.
I don’t think my story is altogether unique. I think there are many people in the world who hit a stumbling block and give up on their dreams.
My dream metamorphisized into something else and I am doing it now. I am sharing my experiences in life with as much emotional honesty as I can in order to help the next writer, songwriter, painter, artist, actor, athlete, engineer, doctor, etc. to persevere.
I feel it is my responsibility to help you release your blocks to success and choose to overcome the limitations of your belief structures, because the truth is, no one holds you back from your dreams, but you.
When you examine what you believe and why, you often learn that the original thought was a way for the mind to protect itself against a situation it didn’t understand and that once you repeated that thought enough times, it became a pattern of thinking, then a belief, then your reality.
If you could pick one dream to focus on, what would be?
What’s stopping you?
Namaste
